If you are contemplating a change in careers, be it retire from military service, or simply a change of companies, you need to do some serious thinking.

If you are contemplating a change in careers, be it retire from military service, or simply a change of companies, you need to do some serious thinking.

Are you happy carrying on in your present job category? Do you want a change? What is it you have to offer a company that others do not?

How will you approach the company you want to work for? Is there a position out there that you truly want so badly you can taste it?

The list of questions you need to ask yourself is quite extensive. In fact you will not be able to do it all in one “sit down”, so you might start carrying a note pad and a pen with you so those thoughts and ideas can be jotted down when they come to you.

Targeting the company you want to work for is fairly straight forward. Now, do you know anyone who works there? What can they tell you about the company and how it operates?

Are they willing to speak to a hiring manager or human resources on your behalf? Or perhaps place your résumé on the desk of the hiring manager? Have you networked and effectively managed your contacts?

Remember, the person who is willing to place your résumé with this company also has a serious stake in you. It is their personal reputation that will be enhanced or damaged when your performance is evaluated.

Remember as well to target your résumé to the position. A general résumé that does not do this simply becomes noise to the human resources person who is inundated with others who want to compete with you for this position.

Remember, in a large company the human resources department may literally be dealing with hundreds, or even thousands of other applications as well as your own.

Can you find the name of a specific hiring manager or human resources person within the company if you do not have a networked connection who can intercede on your behalf? It is always best to be able to direct the mail to someone other than the “general mail box”.

If you are not comfortable writing a targeted résumé you will need to have it created for you. While not a guarantee it will get you the position, it definitely has a better chance to “get you in the door” and may even get you to the interview stage. There are many who claim t be able to write a résumé – however the worst thing the average person can do is write their own.

Lawyers hire lawyers to represent them in court. What makes you think you can write a résumé better than a pro?

Finding a person or a company that can produce targeted résumés in a generally accepted industry format is often not as simple as one might believe. “HireCanadianMilitary” has these people on staff and provides this service with very competitive rates.
